The hospital is located in the center of New Haven, between the famous Yale University complex and its combined medical faculty. This area is not very successful in terms of layout: it was divided into two parts by a motorway and a garage. Several master plans have already been developed to tackle this problem, but the Benish Architectin building was the first to connect both parts of the city and take advantage of the nearby parking lot.

Initially, the building of the clinical laboratory was supposed to be made free-standing and used only to meet the needs of the northern building of the Oncological Center adjacent to it. However, it soon became obvious that the new building at the corner of a busy city crossroads could become an original and striking "gateway" to the cancer center.

In addition to laboratories occupying 4 levels of the building, there is a blood bank, a pharmacy, administrative premises, shops on the 1st floor, as well as classrooms (related to the University Faculty of Medicine). The main landmark inside the building is a 5-storey atrium with a winter garden, over which floor platforms with light metal barriers hang.

The simplicity of the rectangular volume is compensated by the bright "mosaic" of the facades: the building has a high-tech shell made of steel and glass, in which transparent panels are interspersed with colored prints and opaque glazing. This mesh filters sunlight; When placed in brightly colored interiors with numerous landscaping inserts, it enlivens the space, creating an inviting atmosphere for researchers, medical staff, patients and visitors.
