The center will be located, like other institutions in this series, on the territory of a large hospital - Aberdeen Royal Hospital, but far from its main buildings, surrounded by greenery, which will provide patients with a calm atmosphere.
The building is conceived in the form of a streamlined pavilion, placed in the middle of a meadow. Its concrete walls are interrupted by large openings: one contains the glazed area of the main entrance, the second - a small courtyard with a cherry tree as a symbol of life.
If the outside of the building will receive a rounded, but emphatically hard shell, then inside, on the contrary, the premises will be of a traditional rectangular configuration and with soft wood paneling. The center will be one-story (for the convenience of patients) with a small mezzanine floor where offices will be located.
Maggie Centers are institutions for psychological and informational support for cancer patients, which are open at major hospitals in the UK. This program was initiated and in memory of Maggie Kezwick-Jenks, landscape architect and researcher, wife of Charles Jenks, as an alternative to the impersonal and often unpleasant institutions of the public health system. Maggie's Centers are created and operate at the expense of benefactors.
