The architectural competition for the design of the new center was held in Jönköping back in 2007, and the jury unconditionally awarded the victory to the team of Hert Wingord.
According to experts, the architect and the team proposed not only the brightest imaginative solution, but also the most optimal planning scheme for the complex, which several creative teams are planning to use at once.
Suffice it to say that in a building with an area of 15 thousand m2, Vingord was able to accommodate a concert hall, a theater stage, an experimental black box hall, as well as a tutor, an artistic cafe and a multifunctional foyer for visitors.
The building, which has the shape of an irregular pentagon in the plan, is located at the end of the bulk peninsula in such a way that the central foyer is oriented to the west and its panoramic glazing “catches” the setting sun reflected in the water of the lake. On the contrary, along the eastern facade of the complex, the architects grouped office and administrative premises that need sufficient lighting, but are not interested in an excess of direct sunlight.
Therefore, the facades themselves are solved in different ways: the western one is made up of wide vertical glass strips, some of which are tinted in a warm orange color, akin to the evening sun, while all the rest are more dull light surfaces.
The main entrance to the center is decorated with a spectacular console, and the "deflection" of the lake-oriented facade was successfully used by the architects to create a pedestrian square.
