Tranquil Dawn is the name AkzoNobel gave to its 2020 Color of the Year. Based on extensive research on color trends by experts around the world, this color is designed to capture the essence of what makes us more human at the dawn of the new decade.
A sophisticated and delicate shade that combines notes of green, blue and gray, Tranquil Dawn is included in all four palettes of ColourFutures 2020. These palettes are intended to inspire the buyer and make it easier for him to choose the desired shade.
“Silent Dawn” perfectly captures the mood of 2020 and the qualities that make us more responsive,”explains Helen van Gent, head of the AkzoNobel International Aesthetics Center, which conducts annual research on color trends. “This shade resembles the colors of the morning sky and embodies our desire to preserve the most human qualities that we will need in the new decade. It's an exciting and inspiring way to share our love of paint with the world,”she added.
Every year, the company's specialists work with leading design professionals, studying the processes and annual trends in society and design. This creates an up-to-date palette that ideally matches the needs of different fields and segments. Researching global trends is an important part of the overall Color of the Year process, highlighting the top priority of AkzoNobel customers around the world.
“The research we conduct is designed to ensure that the latest trends are applied across all of the relevant areas of our paint business,” commented David Menko, AkzoNobel's director of marketing. "Our design teams color-coded information for a variety of industries, including automotive, architecture, consumer electronics and wood products, targeting the specifics of each of these markets."
Specifically, each of the four 2020 home decorating color palettes will be dedicated to a different theme - The Care Palette, The Play Palette, The Meaning Palette. and The Creativity Palette. These palettes meet a number of specific needs and also provide the buyer with freedom of expression.
The results of color trend research can be applied to other business areas where color plays a significant role. For example, the Specialty, Automotive, Powder and Wood Coatings divisions use this information to provide modern color solutions to designers in the largest markets for furniture, joinery, flooring and building materials.
“Our Automotive & Specialty Coatings business fully leverages the results of color trend research to create matching palettes in a variety of segments such as consumer electronics, automotive and aerospace,” explains David Menko. "A consistent color and trend development process also helps our powder coatings and wood coatings businesses successfully launch and use our own trend colors and accompanying palettes in all markets."
