Architects from St. Petersburg visited the Hagemeister brick factory in the German city of Nottulln during a trip organized by the Kirill firm. This tour gave the architects the opportunity to get acquainted with the production of clinker bricks and visit the objects with its use in the cities of Dortmund, Kamp-Lintfort and Münster.
The owner of the company, Christian Hagemeister, became a personal guide for the architects - he gave a fascinating tour of the plant and objects in neighboring cities. During the tour, architects could “right at the stove” select the products of the Hagemeister plant for their projects - both future ones and those that are already underway.
The range of the company is very wide - it includes more than 300 colors, formats and textures of facade and road clinker. The palette of color solutions is regularly updated thanks to ongoing market research and close cooperation of the company's specialists with designers and architects. If necessary, the plant's specialists develop bricks for specific objects together with architects and other project participants.
This individual approach is largely justified by the fact that Hagemeister is a family-owned company with a century of history and, unlike large international corporations that own many factories around the world and countless names of construction products, is engaged in only one direction. The company annually produces about 150 million facade and road clinker bricks, using high-temperature (up to 1250 ° C) firing of plastic clays until they are completely sintered, without inclusions and voids. This technology gives the clinker high mechanical strength and, as a result, durability, as well as low moisture absorption, high frost resistance and color fastness.
Many Russian architects have already highly appreciated the quality and wide range of clinker from Hagemeister and are willing to use it in their projects. So, the brick of this brand is used in the decoration of a residential building on Burdenko Street and buildings
complex "Garden Quarters", built in Moscow according to the project of the bureau of Sergei Skuratov.
The list of well-known objects using Hagemeister products in other countries is very large - the most notable of them: the Piraeus residential complex in the KNSM-eiland of Hans Kolhoff, the Kunstpalast museum in Düsseldorf Oswald M. Ungers, the Montevideo residential complex in Rotterdam by Mecanoo bureau, hotel H10 Hotel in Berlin by Jan Kleichus, library of the Dutch city of Helmond by Bolles + Wilson, Bestehornpark educational center in Aschersleben by LRO, Netherlands Architectural Institute NAI in Rotterdam, Jo Kunen, Spiegel headquarters by Henning Larsen Architects in Hamburg, many buildings by nps voban in tschoen and Hamburg.
As part of this tour, the architects visited another object - the EK3 shopping center in Kamp-Lintfort, designed by bob-architektur.
Every year, Hagemeister holds architecture seminars at its plant, during which renowned architects from all over the world lecture to 500 architects. The company also actively interacts with students - they work together on projects and conduct seminars, and scholarships are paid to students of the School of Architecture in Münster.
*** Architects from St. Petersburg were impressed both by the capabilities of the Hagemeister plant to manufacture a range of clinkers for facades, and by the buildings they saw by German architects and kindly provided a film-report:
Sergey Mukhanov, Advisor to the President of the St. Petersburg Union of Architects for Economics, Head of the M-Format Architectural Bureau:
The tour opened for us a wide functional and coloristic spectrum of clinker in architecture for its possible use in projects in St. Petersburg and other regions of Russia.
