The college will be attended by students of the humanities and natural sciences faculties of the Amsterdam and Free Universities. Its building is located at the entrance to the Science Park, an international center for education and science in the Watersgraafmeer district, close to the old town.
The proximity of the historical buildings, obviously, determined the choice for the facades of corten steel, which resembles traditional brick walls in its color. Gable roofs speak of the same, however, their crests cross the rectangular block of the building diagonally. This made it possible to emphasize the "attic" effect in the interior, from where you can see the structure of the floors.
The spacious “atriums” in the center of the building create visual connections between floors. The dining room, recreation room, training hall are designed as double-height spaces, from where panoramic views of the Science Park open. Also, on a total area of 5800 m2, there are seminars, a library, rooms for group and individual work, conference rooms.
Among the green technologies used by Mecanoo are thermal accumulators, a concrete core activation system, a green roof planted with moss and sedum.
