Old wood. New life. No waste.

In the world, most manufacturers actually make furniture from all sorts of "substitutes" for real wood - OSB, fiberboard, OSB - and this will surprise no one. However, in the civilized world there is another tendency - to actively use wood "not of the first freshness" in furniture production. And this is not a shameful secret, but, on the contrary, a reason for pride.

Some people use antiquity as a competitive advantage: just imagine that your table is made of old Indian pies, which the Frenchman Albert Shogun personally exchanged with the natives! But, apparently, the aborigines did not want to give the boats on the cheap, because the works of this designer cost a fortune.

Producers in the more democratic segment do things differently. They go to Indonesia for teak - a beautiful, exotic wood. Buy boards from old demolished or abandoned buildings and old ships. But do not worry - this does not affect the quality of the manufactured products, since teak is a strong, durable material, and, most importantly, it is moisture resistant. It rots badly, as it contains tannin and silicon. A three-year-old tree acquires special resistance to fire, mechanical stress and chemical reagents. Teak buildings serve people for many decades, and even centuries. For example, the U-Bein Bridge in Burma was built in 1782 and still does not need repairs.

The use of old teak planks is fully consistent with the idea of recycling - a careful attitude towards natural resources, which is expressed in their reuse.

European and American furniture makers are especially fond of recycled wood: BMB, Old Java, Thomas Bina. They call the wood from which their products are made, antique, or reclaimed.

The Dbodhi company, which appeared in 2007, has repeatedly become a laureate of various specialized competitions as a manufacturer of unique designer furniture and home accessories from recycled teak, metal, denim, etc.

The unusual word Bodhi in Sanskrit means "enlightenment", "awakening", "rise", and also symbolizes the Tree of Wisdom, the letter D indicates that the company was founded by the Dutchman Raymond Davids (Raymond Davids), a passionate environmentalist who actively promotes recycling technologies and the idea of Foot print.

Dbodhi furniture is characterized by textured teak surfaces reminiscent of oak in shade (by the way, oak is significantly inferior in hardness to teak). The pronounced structure of the wood, beautiful drawing - each collection has some kind of zest.

Products made of antique teak can now be bought in Russia, although many people still do not understand why they should use the old if they can cut down the new one. In the West, opposite to architectural objects where a restored tree is present in one form or another, additional points are awarded for certification according to the international LEED eco-rating. Perhaps in the near future we will come to this.
