The scenic area, located opposite the western laboratory building of the Main Scientific Center, was distinguished by its relief, which increased as it retreated from the city passage to the forest, which bound it on the west side and decreased to the north, as it approached the pond. In these circumstances, a free composition of low-rise buildings seemed preferable, contrasting with neighboring laboratory buildings - both in the scale of its elements and rhythmic structure, and in the materials that characterize the image of the buildings.
In the volumetric-spatial system of the complex, there are five buildings, of which three, including unique functions - the main building, the club and sports buildings, occupy the front front of the composition, and two educational blocks containing standard functional material - classrooms for classes, are located on the second plan and back facing the forest. In this case, the orientation of the main facades is facing east (main building) and north (club building and gym building with an adjoining stadium). Taking this into account, the demonstration drawings of the building facades were projected onto the diagonal plane of the picture.
All buildings of the complex are faced with red Latvian bricks "Lode", which is also present in the interiors. Contrasted with it are white fragments and details - the entrance portal of the main building, the club building balcony with a retaining wall, vigorously removed from the facade plane, the library walls towering above the main building, and white beams supporting the club and sports buildings. Deaf elements of stained-glass windows were covered with sheets of black slag-glass, facing outward with the back, "waffle" side.
The main accent of the whole composition and a kind of sign - the symbol of the educational complex is the portal, in the opening of which a clock with a bell of the 17th century is suspended, despite the fact that every hour a musical theme specially composed by Mikael Tariverdiev sounds.
The main building houses a vestibule, a rectorate, a circular recreation, double-height on both sides, covering the central cube of the library and representing an internal "street" with a grand staircase and a ramp connecting all the elements of the complex. It is adjoined by five streaming auditoriums for 200 and 250 seats. In the center of the building is a square library, illuminated by 108 pyramidal skylights and a large central lantern with a reflective inverted pyramid. On its external, interior walls, there is a substantial sculptural relief with an area of more than 900 square meters, illuminated by a perimeter skylight. Anti-aircraft lighting is also provided in the classrooms. Four rows of shades are equipped with curtains. All this demonstrates the original section of the building, and three tiers of glazing are clearly perceived in its silhouette.
The club building contains an assembly hall with 700 seats and a cafeteria. At the same time, the hall with a complex ceiling profile is illuminated by longitudinal stripes of light, repeating this profile - "a stroke in shape". The sports block includes games rooms and a 25-meter swimming pool. Differently oriented three-storey educational buildings are organized around inner courtyards. The transitions between the buildings are made in light galleries adjacent to the retaining wall, in a glass gallery, and also by means of a suspension bridge.
Forms and materials that characterize the external image of the building, the rhythms of single and paired red pylons of different cross-sections, color contrasts, a memorable sign of the complex, a unique clock, the effect of zenith lighting, powerful plastic of monumental relief, red brick used in interior decoration in combination with wood, which is faced the walls and columns of the library and the assembly hall, the works of art present in the building - all this contribute to the romanticization of the image, which suits an innovative higher education institution.
The opening of the complex took place on December 27, 1971. Subsequently, the sixth building was built - an experimental plant of the university and various structures by other authors - all in red brick architecture.
