The series of wooden country houses "Studio of architecture of Ilya Samsonov" did not have a customer. But after the project won the Zodchestvo-2016 in the Young Architects nomination and won first place in the BATIMAT inside 2016 competition, it got an investor and fifty applications for implementation.
The bureau has developed three types of houses, which differ in size. The basic version "Studio" on the plan is a rectangle 6 by 10 meters. In the extended version "Standard" the second bedroom is joined to it along the perpendicular. The Flagship category also provides for a terrace that appears due to the overhang of the roof, but even in this case, the total area barely reaches a compact 100 m2.
The name of the project “Russian Style” is rather surprising at first. The houses not only do not look like 19th century huts, rotting in hundreds in the Russian outback, or the exercises of Ropet and Hartmann, according to which we now imagine a Russian teremok. They are completely alien to modern experiences in the field of cine-tourist huts, lacquer-log and inevitably stilted. Ilya Samsonov's project is more likely the result of a reaction to the dominance of gingerbread houses, since the architect offers an emphatically laconic and restrained version à la russe, rethought in a modern European way.
“There are no molded cornices, pilasters, and other 'decorations', since good housing is a neutral background, where people should be in charge,” says the author Ilya Samsonov.
The facade is extremely laconic. His image is based on a combination of natural textures of wood, concrete and metal. At the same time, not a single detail violates the integrity of this impression. Sheets of smooth galvanized iron with minimally noticeable seams were used as the roofing material, and all visible structural elements of the roof are made of the same wood in which the facade cladding was solved. The cladding is vertical, so it rather resembles traditional Scandinavian rather than Russian buildings - although, on the other hand, it no less refers us to somewhat more brutal

Both the fully glazed front door and the relatively low foundation seem to be a challenge to the eternal Russian horror of winter.
The folklore image of the hut is interpreted by patterned metal facade panels with a bottom layer of frosted glass with backlighting - according to the architect's idea, the customer will be free to choose any ornament. A concrete outdoor fireplace at the corner of the house resembles a wood-burning stove with a high chimney and forms a recreation area.
The interior space is organized as variations on the theme of the traditional Russian house, the semantic center of which was the stove. However, her role in the project is assigned to a modern kitchen block. As befits the beds, the sleeping place is located above it, on the second floor.
The bedroom has an interior window that offers a top view of the spacious living room with a high gable ceiling. A modular system of cells of different sizes stretched across its entire end wall. They can be used as bookshelves, as a TV stand, and as a place for storing firewood. There is a hanging fireplace in front of the sofa, and behind it, from the floor window and glass door, you can see the plot.
The coloristic solution of the interior again turns to the theme of the hut: white, reminiscent of a bleached stove, is combined with wood, and the gray color and texture of the floor covering are reminiscent of the earthen floor; there is nothing superfluous here.
“This is a house that creates a certain lifestyle: not for show, not for the sake of impressing neighbors with a“scale”, but a way of life in which you need to be, and not to seem,” - this is how Ilya Samsonov explains the concept of the project “Russian style.
