Since 2016/2017, the Department of Architectural Environment and Design at the Institute of Business and Design (B&D) is headed by Vladislav Savinkin. On his initiative, the works of freshmen were exhibited at Arch Moscow in the "Design Catalog" section; the stand was called "Svoimi_rukami".

Vladislav Savinkin

Head of the Department of Architectural Environment and Design B&D:

“For me, ArchMoscow has become, in a sense, a ritual for a long time. I would like to convey this feeling to the students, instill in them the understanding that it is necessary to work not only within the walls of the Institute, but also to show your work, your successes and even non-successes to your colleagues, friends, associates, critics and competitors. Because it is very important that the educational process is not local, but integrated into the general system of architecture and design development”.

Ksenia Yankova

Lecturer at the Department of Architectural Environment and Design B&D:

“The educational process at the Department of Architectural Environment and Design at B&D is structured in such a way that the student moves from a small-scale design to a larger one: from a business card to a house, and in a literal sense. Immersion in all layers and complexities of the design process occurs gradually, and thanks to this, an understanding of the sequence of work on the idea appears and the design methodology is mastered. Students are eager to teach a universal method of creating a product and shaping the environment of any space.

For the "OWN_HANDS" exposition, the students were offered to design one object. At the same time, it must have become also a "portrait" of the future space, that is, fully reflect its features.

According to the teachers of the department, a narrow task, limited by the specificity of the situation, function, spirit of the place, makes it possible to better understand the design methodology as a whole: to determine for whom the object is intended, the conditions and technologies of implementation, materials. In addition, the subject begins to be conceptualized as an independent one, bearing its own artistic and volumetric compositional value, and the design process goes beyond the framework of only functional and ergonomic solutions."

Alisa Fomenkova

Lecturer at the Department of Architectural Environment and Design B&D:

“We try to unite previously scattered subjects - design, prototyping, plastic disciplines - with one project, one common goal. In drawing and painting, we are studying artists, sculptors, masters of the 20th century and our colleagues, contemporaries. All presented items were made by students by hand, of course, with our help and advice, but in general they showed a high level and real class."
