The 216-meter tower was built on the ocean shore: between it and Biscayne Bay - only the Museum Park with new buildings of museums: natural science by the design of Nicholas Grimshaw and art - by Herzog & de Meuron.
Designed by Zaha Hadid herself, the project continues the ZHA line of high-rise buildings that visually connect architecture and engineering. In the case of an apartment building in Miami, its design, reminiscent of drawings by Hans Rudy Giger, is designed in the form of an exoskeleton and creates the image of the building. Its surface is formed by glass-fiber-reinforced concrete formwork: this formwork was not dismantled at the end of construction and serves, among other things, to protect concrete surfaces from environmental influences.
The One Thousand Museum exoskeleton is essentially a rigid pipe that can withstand high wind loads, which is very important for Miami with its hurricanes. Also, thanks to this solution, it was possible to do almost without columns inside. The designers were DeSimone Consulting Engineers, the wind load was helped by RWDI Consulting Engineers & Scientists.
On the lower floors, the terraces protrude beyond the structure, higher, thanks to the expanding silhouette of the tower, are inscribed in its borders. At the very top is the “water center”, lounge and event space, while gardens with outdoor pools are located on the rooftop lobby and garage.
In total, the building has 62 levels and almost 85 thousand square meters of area, on which there are 70 half-floor apartments, eight "full-story", four townhouses and one penthouse.
