cube berlin appeared, perhaps, in the most controversial place from the urban planning point of view of the "new Berlin": next to the central station, on the banks of the Spree. It is not very cozy and comfortable here, despite the novelty, there are problems in terms of improvement, etc.
Danish architects have apparently reacted to this environment with an introverted building that can stand up for itself. Glass mirrored facades hide its interiors, while their broken edges make the reflection of the sky and buildings around it extremely effective. Even before the opening, cube berlin had become a popular subject for ordinary photographs and selfies, and the client filmed a film in which 24 hours of the life of this building fit in a minute. Changing lighting, sunbeams and heavy clouds completely change the face of the 3XN building, suggesting mimicry.
At the same time, the crystal facets made it possible to make the work in the leased building more comfortable: open terraces appeared on different floors. Of course, the main one is on the roof, with a panorama of the center of Berlin, but you still have to get there, and small balconies are always nearby.
10 floors of free-plan offices are combined with a “food market” on the first level and an underground garage. The overground area is almost 20,000 m2. cube berlin is indeed a cube, with a side of 42.5 m, although this is not so obvious due to its kinks.
The high-performance double façade with an external sun protection layer insulates the building well, but the windows open there, which reduces the need for air conditioning. A “smart” building management system saves resources and is able to “learn”. Using a special application for smartphones, employees can control access to the office, room temperature, energy consumption, book a meeting room or parking space.
