Curtains have been used for thousands of years to protect homes from bright sunlight and prying eyes. During all these years, they have changed very little.
Modern technologies have changed many familiar things around us. And the curtains were no exception. Over the past hundred years, they have not only become motorized and do not require effort to open the window. They have become really smart and can work in automatic mode. Moreover, they can be closed depending on the illumination, precipitation or heat.
So what are smart curtains?
Types of smart curtains
Modern smart curtains are divided into two types:
- Sliding curtains, which also include Japanese curtains.
- Lifting. This type, in addition to roller models, includes Austrian, Roman and other curtains, in which the fabric for shading the room is raised or lowered.
Design
Lifting and sliding systems have different designs.
In sliding curtains, the fabric is attached to the guides fixed on the ceiling or on the upper part of the opening in one or more rows. For example, if a curtain and a curtain are used in the room, there will be two rows, if only a curtain, then one.
An electric motor pulls the curtain using a toothed belt and a masterglider that holds the edge of the curtain.
Lifting systems are somewhat simpler. In them, the motor is installed directly inside the shaft, on which the curtain is wound or a cord that lifts the curtain.
Separately, it should be said about the blinds. Electric eaves for horizontal blinds work in the same way as electrically operated lifting eaves with remote control, and for vertical blinds - as sliding systems.
Control
Three control options are possible:
- With a wired button;
- From the remote control
- Through the "Smart House" system.
The first two methods have limited capabilities. The basic set of functions in them includes the opening and closing of the curtain and its stop in the desired position. Another function remembers your “favorite” position of the shade and, when you press the “My” button, opens or closes the shade exactly to this point.
The control capabilities through the “Smart Home” system are much wider.
Smart curtains capabilities
“Smart home” is a system to which, using an application on a mobile gadget, all smart appliances and household appliances at home are connected: smart sockets, switches, light sensors and door openers, scales and electric curtains.
This opens up truly tremendous opportunities. You can:
- Control the position of the curtains and control them from anywhere in the world.
- Set the time when they will open and close. This is convenient for several reasons at once. First, your houseplants will definitely not be left without daylight. Second, the attackers will be sure that you are at home and are unlikely to want to rob a house or apartment.
- Associate the opening or closing of curtains with any event. If there is a light sensor, they will open themselves in the morning and close in the evening. Install a temperature sensor - and the automation will shade the room as soon as the sun begins to shine through the window. You can also set that the window should be curtained when the door open sensor is triggered or the light is turned on using the smart switch.
In fact, if you set the rules that are convenient for you, then you will not have to manage the cornices at all. Automation will do everything.
Connect the electric curtain rod to an artificial intelligence system, and it will advise you on energy saving, provide detailed statistics on the use of curtains, and facilitate the management of electric curtain rods and other household appliances.
The cost of smart systems
Prices for smart curtains depend on the size of the curtain rod, the power of the engine, the selected control system and the manufacturer. Thus, the products of companies from the EU and the USA are somewhat more expensive than Chinese ones. And the price of smart curtains controlled through the "Smart House" is higher than the price of electric curtain rods, which are switched on from the remote control or button.
Below are the prices for electric eaves in the basic configuration. The total cost in each case is calculated taking into account the exact dimensions of the electric cornice, engine power, selected fabric, etc.
