Urban Glass House is being built under the supervision of Johnson's architectural partner Alan Ritchie. The interior design is by Annabelle Selldorf, the interior designer of many art galleries.
The main theme of the project is continuous glazing of the walls, as in the famous "Glass House" Johnson in New Kanen. The main volume of the building consists of identical transparent cubes, which ensure the openness of the interiors of the apartments outward, into the space of the city. Through the panoramic windows, due to the low height of the surrounding industrial buildings, residents of each of the 40 apartments of the 12-storey building will be able to admire the views of the Hudson River. The sloping shape of the house made it possible to arrange terraces and balconies.
The end of construction is going to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding architect, which will be celebrated in 2006.
