The structure of white steel resembles a resilient mass like chewing gum (a comparison suggested by the architect herself) stretched in the atrium between the floors of the Foster Building, where various exhibits of the Biennale are displayed.

Thus, the various tiers of the exhibition space are visually united with each other; rounded "outgrowths" end in rectangular volumes that cover individual intercolumnia of the pseudo-Tuscan colonnade surrounding the courtyard.

Creating her installation, Zaha Hadid wanted to make the complex geometry of modern architecture and industrial design more understandable to the average viewer. A state-of-the-art CNC milling machine was used to create this sculpture.
