The project for the new complex was developed by the New York architectural firm Diller, Scofidio & Renfro. The outer shell of the building will consist of alternating panels of transparent and frosted glass, as well as metal. This approach allows you to smooth out the visible boundaries between windows, walls and doors.
On an area of 5760 sq. m will house a museum with a special section for the exhibition of digital art, a theater with 325 seats, and a spacious educational center.
The main exhibition space is located in a forward-facing volume directed towards the water. Its glass façade consists of vertical lenses that only allow viewing perpendicularly to the viewer, obstructing oblique views.
Already collected about 30 million of the required for the construction of $ 60 million. The building should open in 2006. Its appearance will stimulate the development of the entire southern part of the city harbor area.
