Although the construction of this interchange, where 12 lines of the New York subway connect, began in February 2005, almost all work until the last moment was related to the engineering part. Now the implementation of the main idea of Grimshaw begins: the creation in the center of the station complex of a spacious lobby with natural light through a window-oculus in the domed ceiling. Another original idea for the interior of the transfer hub was the use of the brickwork of the Corbin Building of the late 19th century by the architect, at the base of which one of the station exits is arranged. In contrast to the materials typical of Grimshaw's projects - steel and glass, the powerful red arches seem to reflect the city's history, preparing passengers to enter New York's oldest neighborhood, no matter how modern it may seem at first glance.

The capacity of the future station is 300,000 people per day; one of its main tasks is to unload the Transport Terminal of the World Trade Center located nearby.
