The building has a construction that is unexpected for modern architecture and more reminiscent of the structure of a Gothic cathedral. Its facades are an ephemeral barrier: a double row of huge arched window openings leaves almost no room for the actual surface of the exposed concrete wall. Inside, the motif of the arches continues, they rest on beams of supports placed according to the rectangular lattice of the plan. Buttresses and flying buttresses, however, are absent, since the library, nevertheless, is built of reinforced concrete, and not of stone blocks. Another source of inspiration for the architect was the mosques of the Cordoba Caliphate, where the pillars of the prayer hall, connected by arches, are arranged in this way, along a rectangular grid. In Ito's case, it is also coordinated with the arrangement of the supports of the window arches.
The internal space allows you to arrange furniture and library equipment depending on the wishes of the customer; the project does not provide for any restrictions for this. The entrances to the building are marked by niches in the arches of the lower tier.
In terms of the building, it is almost a regular rectangle, but its long sides are slightly concave inward: thus, a small square is created on the street side, and on the other side the library includes a part of the university park.
