The glass and concrete villa is located on the edge of London's most famous necropolis, sometimes called the Victorian Valhalla. Since its opening in 1839, Michael Faraday, George Elliot, Karl Marx have been buried there.
The current owner of the churchyard home, real estate appraiser Richard Elliot, purchased it in 1998 for half a million pounds. It was then a typical 1970s blue aluminum building. Elliott commissioned architects Eldridge Smerin to complete the overhaul of the building, transforming the two-story house into an elegant four-story city villa with glass walls and ceilings; a more restrained facade made of granite and steel faces the street; the mansion's interiors seem to consist only of concrete and light.
The lush vegetation around was thinned out, and when Richard Elliot wanted to install a bench nearby and chose a convenient place for it, he found the grave of his great-great-grandfather, long lost in the maze of burials, nearby.
The house is now selling for £ 5.95 million. Elliot is reluctant to part with his property: he needs the money to return the loan taken for the reconstruction of the house.
