The old buses of the Routemaster model at the time of their appearance in 1954 significantly determined their time, so they successfully operated on routes in the city center until the end of 2005. The main reason for the abandonment of this world-famous form of public transport was its lack of environmental friendliness and inability to meet the needs of people with disabilities … These issues are fully addressed in the new Routemaster, a collaboration between two key UK “brands” - Norman Foster's workshop and the design bureau of sports car manufacturer Aston Martin. The work on the project of the new bus went from the inside out: from the solution of the interior to the external appearance. The new bus will be more maneuverable and powerful than its predecessor, as well as safer: this will be facilitated by the panoramic glazing of the driver's cab, the screens of external surveillance cameras installed there and radio communication with the conductor.
The passenger compartment will include wooden floors and artificial leather upholstery. The skylight of the upper platform will carry solar panels; it will also regulate the amount of sunlight entering the bus, preventing overheating. The updated Routemaster will be a zero-emission vehicle and will also have an additional side door for disabled passengers and passengers with small children (while retaining the traditional open rear entrance).
