Design in the tradition of the Bauhaus style

Weimar is considered the cradle of modern design. In this city in 1919, Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus, a school of art for a new way of thinking. Against the backdrop of the post-war years, with the characteristic features of a social turn on the one hand and industrial progress on the other, the Bauhaus artists dared to make a courageous attempt to combine the incompatible. They abandoned the principle of the division of labor into artistic design and production and proclaimed the idea of combining these components. The main focus of the Bauhaus style was the development and production of components that combine intellectual, commercial, practical and aesthetic requirements in equal measure. The time has come for designers who have given a new form to everyday life. Household items such as lamps and furniture have been transformed from steel cylinders into interior objects. In architecture, this style also quickly gained great success. The most striking example of this is the famous Weißenhofsiedlung district of Stuttgart.

The sketches of the Bauhaus testify to the desire of their authors for brevity and functionality. Concentration on the most important has led to the minimalism inherent in this era. Simple geometric shapes such as circle, square and cone have become the main components of artistic design. These principles of classical design have not lost their relevance to this day, since industrial design in subsequent years very often focused on the samples of the Bauhaus era when developing new products. Not an exception is the promising generation of switches, created in the late 60s of the last century, influenced by the philosophy of this style.

LS 990 - an idea takes shape

Looking for a timeless switch shape, JUNG designers rediscovered the classic square shape that was often used during the Bauhaus period 40 years ago. Pure aesthetics of austere outlines, maximum comfort at the touch of the flat surface of the switch and simple design met all the requirements for modern interior design. The modularity of the new LS series of switches seemed ingeniously simple and stylish to everyone. The dimensions of the key are 70 x 70 mm, the dimensions of the frame are 81 x 81 mm. On the basis of this square module, all subsequent ideas for the development of new devices were realized. The premiere of the LS 990 series of switches took place in 1969; at that time, for the wholesale trade were presented switches in ivory and gray, as well as in an exclusive design in silver and gold. A year later, the consumer was offered an expanded line of switches of the LS 990 series from JUNG, which was supplemented by dimmers and low-current sockets.

From a conventional switch to an interior object

The family of switches of the LS series has grown continuously over the years. It has been supplemented with devices for controlling blinds and timers. The switch, which convinces not only by its technical characteristics, but also attractive in terms of design, gradually became an element of the interior. This new vision of this previously humble electrical appliance presented special demands to JUNG designers. It became necessary to be one step ahead of the development of architectural design in order to embody its trends in new developments in advance. Innovative materials were used, a modern color scheme was created. The variety of designs such as agate, leather texture, white marble or antique brown testifies to the breadth of the range of ideas that made the LS 990 a modern element in the interior as early as the 70s. A large selection of various surface textures and a rich color range of switches in this series made it possible to find an excellent solution for any interior.

The quality of genuine values

Architects and building customers often prefer the classic LS 990 range of switches for their buildings, as they value a clean design that blends harmoniously with modern architectural style. Particularly successful are the elegant stainless steel switches, which were first introduced in 1999. Three years later, it was time for another interesting novelty: JUNG was the first manufacturer to introduce the new Natur series of aluminum switches on the market. This high quality material is one of the most popular in modern buildings, as it meets all the requirements of modern building engineering systems. The series was later expanded with the spectacular Anthracite, Shiny Chrome and Gold programs.

Variety of the program

From the very beginning, the LS 990 circuit-breaker series was oriented towards the future, as all the prerequisites for development and progress were laid in it. The special design principle with a large-sized key not only made it possible to use the switch comfortably, but also to easily implement any new technical ideas. Thus, the LS 990 series has easily gone from a simple switch to a "smart" automatic device with centralized control of various functions in the radio control system, lighting and blind control, as well as in the KNX system. The LS 990 series is an excellent example of the combination of maximum operating comfort and unsurpassed functionality. All this allows you to easily embody any ideas of architects and the wishes of customers.

Progress made tradition

The rapid technical development of recent years is not losing its strength and is increasing the pace. Electrical technology is becoming more complex and the functional requirements for circuit breakers are becoming more demanding. JUNG was founded almost 100 years ago and is considered a leader in its industry. Thanks to its innovative ideas, JUNG continues to develop continuously. Numerous innovations from JUNG are clear proof of technological progress. An example of this are the latest innovations: an intercom system with video and audio functions for indoor and outdoor communication, as well as an elegant, built-in radio from JUNG with an integrated powerful loudspeaker that perfectly reproduces low frequencies. The “intelligent” devices of the KNX system have also been successfully transformed. All electrical installation devices, such as sensors, actuators, etc., are united by a common information bus, through which data is exchanged and the control of lighting, blinds, heating, ventilation, audio system, etc. is regulated. The full range of these state-of-the-art fixtures in the LS 990 series maintains the uniform style and flawless appearance of the electrical installation.

In a fantasy world, just like at home

Ambitious modern architects striving for excellence often use the LS series electrical installation devices in their projects. For example, in Munich, where the BMW concern tried to embody a special vision of the future in its new BMW World complex. The whirlwind of a tornado in the shape of a double cone, framed by glass and steel, rests against the roof vault of 16,000 m² and opens up a scale that has never been imagined. In the design project for this complex, the LS 990 series switches in the elegant design "Antacite" and "Aluminum" were given the important task of controlling the technical functions in the building. Over the years, more and more renowned building projects have been fitted with the LS 990 series circuit breakers. The combination of design and functionality convinces over and over again.

Touch-enabled - the future has already arrived

Electrical installation equipment is heading towards a new era. An innovative product - the touch module from JUNG, for the first time provides the opportunity to participate in the creation of a design according to your own taste. This is further proof that the design of the LS 990 series, regardless of the trends of the times, keeps pace with technical development. The touch surface of this innovative switch opens up new horizons for creativity. Ideal conditions have been created for a simple switch to become an interior element. If desired, you can place in the foreground, for example, a photograph of a room, a stylized drawing, or simply place text there. A short touch on the touch points is enough to activate the desired function: a specific lighting scene or control of blinds and roller shutters. This new product from JUNG proves once again that the LS 990 circuit breaker with its enormous development potential will undoubtedly pave the way for tomorrow's technology in the future as well. The future remains with JUNG.
