This is a part of the park with an area of 560 hectares (in total, it occupies more than 900 hectares). This largest recreational area in the South Korean capital was opened in the mid-1980s. It combines a zoo, a botanical garden and an amusement park, part of which is dedicated to the history and culture of Korea.
The AECOM architects' plan, entitled "Gaia: Living World", will enhance the role of wildlife in the concept of the park, and the boundaries between the individual functional areas will be smoothed. Areas where animals live will be interspersed with expositions of the botanical garden and attractions. New objects will appear, such as the "Korean Forest" or the "Winter Garden" with a huge waterfall.
It is also planned to connect the lake located on the territory of the park with the city, thereby making the structure of the park itself more flexible and natural.
It should be noted that EDAW, a landscape architecture bureau that is part of AECOM and now operates as AECOM Design + Planning, developed the initial design for Seoul Grand Park in the 1980s.
