The International Council for High-Rise Buildings and the Urban Environment (CTBUH) awarded the “10 Years Award” to the 163-meter building of the German post office in Bonn, built in 2002 according to the design of Helmut Jan. The award recognizes high-rise buildings that have shown high performance during at least 10 years of operation.

The Deutsche Post tower has fully met the expectations of its creators - architects from Helmut Jan's bureau, engineers from Werner Sobek's firm, specialists in green technologies Transsolar. It consumes 75 kWh per m2 / year, which is 79% less than a conventional building of the same size, making it one of the most energy efficient high-rise buildings in the world.

Such figures are obtained, among other things, due to savings on air conditioning: the skyscraper is thoughtfully oriented towards the prevailing wind direction and cardinal points, the project also includes a double façade with adjustable elements and natural ventilation based on the principle of gravity.

In addition, the spectacular atrium and "heavenly gardens" make the building enjoyable, and the layout allows for the most efficient use of space.

Other nominees for the award included former world record holder Taipei 101 in Taipei, Jean Nouvel's Torre Agbar in Barcelona, SOM's Time Warner Center in New York.
