The Treehotel, nestled in a pine forest in Sweden's northernmost province, Norrbotten, consists of a series of "bungalows", essentially tree houses, designed by different architects. Among them are Tham & Videgård's Mirror Cube and Sami Rintaly's Dragonfly.
The seventh room of the hotel, so named - "The 7th room" was the construction of the Snøhetta workshop. Like other structures, it is raised above the ground on supports, which reduces the load on neighboring trees and the ecosystem as a whole. At a height of 10 meters, guests can get as close to nature as they want. To admire the views of the Luleelven River valley and the northern lights, extensive glazing in all rooms, openings in the bedroom ceilings, and a mesh patio in the core of the building, with a pine tree in the center, are provided. This hanging space can be used for relaxing or even sleeping, for which you only need a sleeping bag.
The exterior is clad in burnt pine planks, while the interior is in light wood tones. To add dynamism to the interior space, the floor level fluctuates within 30 cm. Especially for the Seventh Room, Snøhetta designed two lamps: a chandelier for the living room and a birch veneer bedside lamp, where the dark exterior and light interior surfaces refer to the overall project solution.
The authors paid special attention to the process of guests arriving in the room: the black-and-white photograph immediately attracts attention, covering the entire lower surface of the building (12 mx 8 m). It depicts pine trees (still existing) going up into the sky: this is how this place looked before the construction of the villa. The staircase leading upstairs is long, with several platforms, allowing you to enjoy the surroundings. However, there is also a small lift for luggage.
The room is designed for five people: there are two double beds and a sofa, as well as a bathroom and shower. The total area of the building is 100 m2, the living area is 75 m2. The rest of the infrastructure is located in the neighboring hotel, which also serves the guests of the Treehotel.
