The Himalaya Center with a budget of about $ 250 million is due to open for the World Expo 2010, which will be held in Shanghai. It will be erected in the modern business district of Pudong, next to the Jin Mao Tower and the World Financial Center.
The volume of the building is made up of cubic blocks; at the same time, its central part is framed as an "organic forest" (as the architect himself defined it): its walls will consist of "clots of matter" alternating with openings of the same irregular shape. This space, which implies unrestricted movement and development, will house cultural institutions that imply passive visitor participation: the Zendai Art Museum (after the developer's name) and the DaGuan Theater. Rectangular, "static" sections, placed on both sides of the "forest", on the contrary, suggest a more active participation of people: the "Complex of Creativity" and two hotels - the traditional Zendai Art Hotel and the Zendai Hotel Yin boutique hotel - will open there.
