The award was established by the "Rules of Communication" agency and its co-owner Yulia Zinkevich, the active curator of the project, a year and a half ago. And since then, without discouragement, he offers the jury and everyone else on the Internet a selection of positive construction practices "outside the Moscow Ring Road" for the choice of the jury, creates catalogs and holds conferences dedicated to realizations and projects of all regions except the capital. Public building
The organizers understood the concept of public organizers very broadly, there are a couple of office buildings, one of which bashfully calls itself "public administrative" - both offices compete in approximately the same weight category:
and the new (2010) building of the Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant in Pervouralsk - a modern steelmaking production, of which, according to ChTPZ, there are only about 20 units in the world, the first metallurgical plant in the Russian Federation, rebuilt in an open field, tuned for a rapid technology update and requiring only 300 workers … Its facades were painted by the architects of the E-Program bureau and even in reality, and not only in a bright picture, they look quite surreal with their illusion of perspective from glowing pipes flying into the imaginary depths.
Several sports schools, a school built by Andrey Romanov in Mamontovka, and the famous, almost bronze Skolkovo business school of David Adjaye, form the educational part of the public function. They are adjoined by the ICC in Pervouralsk, the concept of which was made by the BERNASKONI bureau - the author asked to mention it that way, something did not go into implementation there. For some reason, there is no Kaluga ICC bureau Wowhaus - as it turned out, it did not pass from
long list to short list; otherwise it would be possible to compare, the buildings seem ideologically almost opposite to each other.
The ICC is a new project (2016), in this it is adjoined by the entrance group of the Starocherkasskaya Riviera village by the Asadov bureau, a high “observation deck for the Cossack steppes”.
And finally, from two chronological boundaries, the typology is closed by two museums - laureate of Architecture:
Nuvi at in Beloyarsky by Valery Lukomsky, who received silver for the project and gold for the construction at Zodchestvo in 2009 and 2010. And the Kulikovo Pole Museum of Sergei Gnedovsky - "Crystal Daedalus" in 2016.
Fresh swallows - two winemaking centers, one newly built
Museum of Cognac Levon Airapetov and Valeria Preobrazhenskaya, WAF nominee; the second is the just completed Kleinewelt Architekten winery in Gai Kodzor - both buildings are also conditionally public, and plastic in many respects opposite, at least, belonging to two different directions.
Two objects of the Kazan innopolis stand apart: a cylindrical technopark and a "nosed" one, with a silhouette reminiscent of the Moneral pavilion, a university - both architects Anton Tsybisova.
As you can see, education prevails, and somehow sports; I can't say if this is good news, but the Olympic theme, apparently, will pass a few more, especially since the World Cup is coming soon, and everything has already started anew. The rest of the topics were divided into two: museums, wineries … Only the steel-making shop is alone - however, what kind of public building is it, the public will not get there. In terms of style, laconicism-modernism, which now definitely prefers to decorate "glass and concrete" with wood, is adjacent to the heirs of the deconstruction of Gehry and Libeskind, and since this direction requires more impact, these objects, being implemented, are more likely to command respect, since it is obvious how much in they have invested not only creative, but also craft efforts - just to make them look worthy. The plant can pass for industrial modernism; in principle, he is from the category of practices that are positive in general, the development of the industry, - it would be interesting, this will now be a proposal to the organizers of the "Accept cities", to compile a catalog of new Russian industry. The fourth direction is transparent modernism, which is not so common on our land, the climate here is not very suitable for it; at the award he was represented by the Gai Kodzor winery. ***

Public space
The most colorful nomination, and the most fashionable, so it's difficult with it. If we talk about the poles, then, in my opinion, there are two of them: the pathetic park of Alexander Galitsky at the Krasnodar stadium, which has just sounded loudly everywhere like a pandan to the Moscow Zaryadye (the designers are none other than gmp) - and the plush manor Orekhovno Alexander Grivko, interpreting traditions not French and not English, but Italian manneristic park, which is very beautiful. The first one is just finished, 2017; second - 2016. Both are new. So opposed to each other that it seems that the jury's decision will significantly clarify its position. Although experts can, by avoiding such an explicit statement of preference, vote for the courtyard, promenade or beach. It is very likely, by the way, that they will vote for something socially useful, again indicating the correct social position. It's a pity.
Renovation and reconstruction
Scary words with the letter "r" hide stories that are quite curious and pleasant. There is no restoration, therefore, it is mainly the 19th century that is being renovated, and the objects are divided into two types: wooden towers and brick factories. Now these are the most harmless objects of renovation and reconstruction. Almost everyone knows about Ostashevsky terem, although many lazy people have not yet reached the Chukhloma district. His lesser-known friend is Benois Farm, the wooden Art Nouveau of St. Petersburg. Kuzhenkino station is a hybrid of a wooden tower in an industrial station function, and the well-known Vysota 239 workshop of the Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant, whose "daughter" is "Iron Ozone 32", has already been mentioned above, brings into the context of industrial eclecticism a note of memories of Soviet industry, reconstructed before unrecognizable, but effective. The Zeichhaus museum complex in the Astrakhan Kremlin looks like a delicate inclusion in the community of industrial heritage monuments, where instead of traditionally cast-iron columns, the structures are supported by wooden supports.
New resorts
Among the rest houses of the new wave, the poles form the Crimean Mriya Resort & Spa - a typical, if not frank example of hotel architecture - and the well-known bull-houses of the Tula Yasno-Pole. The middle is formed by the Rodniki boutique hotel in the Vladimir region, from the ATRIUM bureau (2013), the New Peterhof hotel from Studio 44 (2010), the creative residence of CHEKHOV # APi by Alexander Dolgin and Askar Ramazanov and the Izumrudnoye recreation center by Stas Gorshunov.
New residential construction
But this nomination demonstrates the most real, distinctly real signs of cities. Actually, everything else is, perhaps, signs, but residential construction is life, and it looks like the core of the award. We must pay tribute to the organizers: against the general background of everything that is now being built in terms of housing, and even not in the capitals, they managed to select really quite positive examples. However: a low-rise example out of ten, one, Skolkovo quarter №10 UNK project, a product of artificially created circumstances.
All products of the market gravitate towards 20 floors, but advanced developers are successfully mastering the topics of improving boulevards, playgrounds and bike paths. What is good - other complexes and you will not immediately go around on a bicycle, for example, the Akademicheskiy residential complex in Yekaterinburg consists of a hundred (!) Residential buildings, it began to be built in 2006, now it has 47,000 inhabitants, By 2025, there will be about 300,000 people.
Out of ten nominees, about 2/3 apply for meaningful work with an architectural form, among them, in particular, Anton Barklyansky's Astra residential complex, which bypassed all possible awards, and the rather unexpected Admiral residential complex in Novosakhalinsk, as if it had come out of a Nizhny Novgorod school.
Another tendency - very calm, clean and neat background buildings, whose goal seems to be to frame high-quality amenities - is demonstrated by several fresh development projects, including the Brusnika company, which in the educated circles it is now customary to mention only with the epithet “beautiful "; the Talan company adjoins it with the Maxima complex in Izhevsk. These complexes are photographed "through the tree", so it is not always possible to even count the floors. When you count them, they are more likely 12 than 5, although 20 years of mastering the practice of stepped growth of houses "from five to fifteen" was not in vain.
An interesting example is ZhK Milkhouse in Novosibirsk; here the landscaping, judging by the pictures, is quite modern, with pine trees, but in the photographs the facades are not hidden behind the grass, especially since the proposed interpretation of moderate brick historicism looks delicate and interesting. In addition, the house has only 9 floors, but this is due to its location in the historic center. Even more amazing is that
the built house looks better than the render, where pilasters pinned to the plane are not at all organic; but after all, they have grown into a dark red brick along with rust and it turned out well.
However, in most cases, development projects do not indicate the authorship of architects - even the "beautiful Brusnika" delicately writes: the Dutch architectural company, carefully hiding which one. The epithet itself is Dutch, more important. ***
Best Urban Development Idea
The only award nomination is for projects, but not any, but for the drivers of territorial development. Apparently, this is a kind of hybrid of large-scale urbanism, which we are accustomed to call urban planning, and local, which is now usually called urbanism itself. Among the large-scale projects - one of the three winning projects of the research competition "The Gray Belt of St. Petersburg", the project "French Bucket" by Evgeny Gerasimov and Sergei Tchoban; the other two did not leave the long list. On a smaller scale - the residential area "Kvartal XXI Century" in Irkutsk "Studii 44", also a competition project, and here, too, two "neighbors in the competition" did not make it to the shortlist of the award; there are 32 projects on the long list, 7 are left on the short list. Excluding the two mentioned, five remain - four of them are embankment improvement projects and one park. Of these five, three are Strelka KB projects, and strictly speaking, there could probably be more of them in the long list and in the short list, but one way or another, the remaining set quite accurately, and maybe even very accurately reflects the balance of power not-in-the-capital.
