The Wolf Prize “To Promote Arts and Sciences for the Benefit of Humanity” is awarded annually to distinguished researchers and artists from around the world; Since its inception in 1978, 253 individuals have been awarded for "achievements in the name of humanity and friendship among peoples, regardless of nationality, race, color, religion, gender or political opinion."

In the field of art, distinguished sculptors, painters, musicians and architects alternate every year. The last awarded architect was Jean Nouvel in 2005, before that among the laureates were Alvaro Siza, Frank Gehry, Fumihiko Maki, Fry Otto, Aldo van Eyck and others.

The jury of the award noted the achievements of Peter Eisenman primarily as a theorist who determines the nature of the discussion between architects and researchers of the theory and history of architecture. Particularly named were such works as the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin, the City of Culture of Galicia in Santiago de Compostella, and the Wexner Arts Center in Columbus.

David Chipperfield was awarded for his original version of the tectonic language, subtlety and depth of architectural images of both large and small structures, attention to material, details, and context. The buildings selected by the jury included the New Museum in Berlin, the Literary Museum in Marbach, the River and Rowing Museum near London.

The awards ceremony will take place on May 13, 2010 in Jerusalem, the Knesset, where the laureates will be presented with a $ 100,000 prize by the President of Israel.
