The closing ceremony and awarding ceremony of the XII Zodchestvo festival took place tonight. Towards the end of the ceremony, when it was time for the main prizes, it was announced that the festival jury had decided not to award the Crystal Daedalus for the construction. According to the President of the SAR Andrei Bokov and his deputy Georgy Solopov, this proposal came from Alexander Skokan, but he himself could not motivate his decision, since he was not present at the ceremony due to illness. As Georgy Solopov explained, none of the three buildings nominated for this award seemed to the jury worthy of the highest award.

Recall that the nominees for the "Golden Diplomas" in 2010 were named: the Altai Ecocenter "Nuvi-At" Valery Lukomsky, the hotel complex in Peterhof Nikita Yavein, and the Nizhny Novgorod WTC Alexander Dekhtyar.

Thus, the "Crystal Daedalus" in its previous form, the award for the best construction of the country, established in 2001 and issued for almost the entire last decade, de facto ceased to exist. That falls in unison with the position of Zodchestvo curator Yuri Avvakumov that Daedalus should be renamed Tatlin, and that he personally does not like the idea of linking the award with the name of Daedalus, a criminal and non-architect who built a wooden cow, in which the wife of the king of Knossos was engaged in lewdness with a bull. All this together suggests that the days of the award called "Crystal Daedalus" (for the sake of justice it should be noted that many people did not like it from the very beginning) are numbered and it will probably gradually be replaced by new awards from the Union of Architects.

However, de jure "Daedalus" continues to exist - this well-known statuette was awarded to the laureates of the grand prix of the new festival section, located in the "Gradoistroystvo" pavilion. It was the project for the reconstruction of the 130th quarter in Irkutsk ("Irkutskgrazhdanproekt", chief architect Elena Grigorieva). This quarter consists almost entirely of wooden houses - monuments of architecture, some of which will be reconstructed, and some of them will be rebuilt with logs "in the same forms"; at the same time, the quarter is supposed to be supplemented with an amphitheater, many public areas and overhead passages.

The second grand prix awarded by the Zodchestvo festival was the new Tatlin prize established this year to award the best project. The prize, in the form of a stylized tower of the III International, was awarded to the one shown by the workshop "Sergey Kiselev & Partners" for the project of a shopping mall in Sevastopol, which we wrote about some time ago.

Another prize, presented today at Zodchestvo, a prize for architectural workshops “for reputation”, is also associated with the name of Sergei Kiselev. It was handed over to the "Ostozhenka" bureau.

Later, read on Archi.ru a more detailed report on the winners of the twelfth Zodchestvo festival.
