Computer design in programs well known to practicing architects, such as 3ds Max, ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, over the past decade, has become as much a necessity as drawing or hillshades used to be. Today, MArchI students are doing their first 3D project in their third year. Computerization of design is developing very quickly, and in the past few years, architects are already in full swing mastering second-generation programs, such as Rhino, which allow "growing" an architectural form from given parameters. From the tool of rapid drawing and modeling, the computer in the era of the so-called. parametric architecture turns into the same creator as the person who controls it. This ideology, of course, is not indisputable, but it must be admitted that at the present time not a single even the most conservative architect can do without 3D modeling - high-quality visualizations now account for almost half of the success in competitions and tenders.

The Polygon for Creativity competition supports young architects, designers, animators working with Autodesk software products. The selection of participants in it is carried out in several stages, the first of which started back in June. First, the leaders were chosen by popular vote, then 36 of them were finalists (9 in each nominations) and, finally, by December, the jury had distributed the prizes, and the fans voted for the Audience Award.

The nomination "Architecture and Design" was judged by Andrey Asadov. According to him, “the participants, on the whole, have a good command of software tools, but for some reason, for some reason, they submit mainly applied works, high-quality interiors and exteriors. There are very few works with mood and personal style”.

The first place in this nomination was awarded to the Saratov architect Anton Lebedev for the project "Bar on the Waves" - the shell of a traditional house with a gable roof transferred to the pier. The idea itself is not new, but very nicely presented: the bar would fit perfectly into the Archstoyanie style and would certainly become a popular place not only for food, but also for fishing. The second place was given to the interior called "Rose", created by the St. Petersburg architect Vladimir Mironov as a commercial render advertising tiles. True, the work has so obviously outgrown the advertising format that it looks more like a work of art - for which it was awarded. The third place went to the Kiev architect Anton Cherenko for the visualization of the building designed by Dunsky Ko hauser Architects. The project itself is a luxurious private house designed in the style of 1960s modernism. The canal, garden and twilight haze created by Anton Cherenko suit him very much: smooth geometric planes acquire monumentality and romantic shade. “Great render, with good mood! - Andrey Asadov commented on this work. "It's good when you can see how aging modern architecture is." Architect Yulia Danilova from Nizhny Novgorod won the nomination "Most Conceptual Idea". Its International Center, created for the competition in Yerevan, has the shape of a deformed letter U, at which one end unbent and "crawled".

As Andrei Asadov noted, the main task of the "Architecture and Design" nomination was "to identify successful submissions, to understand the features and techniques used in successful works." The projects of the winners in this sense are all very different - each of them has found its own convincing means of expression. “I would only like,” the architect remarked regarding the participants as a whole, “that the emphasis was more on the artistic aura, the author's transfer of the feeling of the project. Moreover, such competitions are the best way to show your most innovative, intellectual ideas, from which a truly professional architect is born."

The works of the finalists in other nominations, as well as the video broadcast of the award ceremony for the winners of the "Polygon for Creativity 2010", can be viewed on the website of the competition.
