British officials, civil society organizations and ordinary citizens have consistently criticized Tesco for the wretchedness of its supermarkets, which are huge hangars that disfigure their urban or natural surroundings. In response, she created a dedicated design department led by an architect, and also held the first competition for a new store in Nottingham.

More than 130 entries were submitted for the competition, with Joshua Prince-Ramus' bureau REX and Broadway Malyan among the seven finalists.

As a result, the "Mangera Ivars" variant should become the "flagship" of the reconstruction of the adjacent urban area. The 8,000m2 store (budget £ 40m) will be surrounded by four plazas linking it to neighboring streets. The building, made up of several volumes, will be partially covered with ornaments reminiscent of the flourishing lace production in Nottingham in the 19th century (which, however, is not a new idea for this city). The complex will include, in addition to retail space and utility rooms, a multi-storey garage, cafes, offices, a community center; green walls and a roof will also be installed.
