The Library and Knowledge Center (LLC) occupies a central location on the university's new campus next to Prater Park, where, in addition to Hadid, Peter Cook, Hitoshi Abe and Karme Pinos have designed academic buildings.
The LLC building consists of two volumes, the facades of which are sheathed with fiber-reinforced concrete panels. The upper one, black, with an energetic cantilever extension towards the main campus area, contains a library, including a reading room by a huge "monitor" window, from where views of the park open.
The lower part of the building, separated from the upper part by a glazed tape, is covered with light panels. Inside there are self-study spaces, an alumni employment center, function rooms, a bookstore, a copy center, and more.
The lobby and atrium are treated as a continuation of the square from the outside. Spiral staircases and ramps rise from them to the very roof, forming a mesmerizing funnel-shaped space.
