What can a freshman know about architecture? Almost nothing.

Unless he read Vitruvius, of course.

10 articles on architecture.

1 article. About the beginning.

Every person has an architectural origin. Vitruvius said that all bodies are composed of principles: heat, moisture, earth and air. If one of them overpowers the others, then they weaken and the body is subject to destruction. But all creatures, be they: birds, fish and terrestrial animals, have a different ratio of principles.

Likewise, the architectural feeling is common to everyone to the same extent, but when you start doing it, it becomes a habitat, like water for fish. Therefore, leaving the architectural circle of communication, you begin to feel discomfort, like a fish thrown on a dry sandy shore.

Section 2. September 1.

An inexplicable force led us to the place where, after the summer heat, entrance exams, heavy expectations, chaos in the head, the long-awaited announcement of the results, unimaginable happiness and several more weeks of happy doing nothing, overcoming the predawn fog of a September morning, newcomers, as well as old people gathered at the Moscow Architectural Institute …

Article 3. Project.

The assignment for the first project was issued on September 1. And on that day, still completely green students left home immersed in thoughts about him. And off we go. Sleepless nights, incomprehensible tasks, strange objects, unexpected rooms, new surroundings. In general, our brain involuntarily began to take on a vaporous state. Feelings can only be compared with making a fire in the sun, when in the shade +35.

Each task fundamentally changes the idea of / u200b / u200blife. I drew a facade - and it seems as if the streets consist of only facades, nothing else interests the eyes of a student who has just submitted a project. I drew a cut - and, oh gods, the buildings became transparent, exposing all their insides to the smallest detail. Orders are already being dreamed of as something ordinary. A street full of Corinthian capitals, an Ionic order in the Alexander Gardens, beautiful entases, and striking when leaving the cinema. Nothing delights the eye of an architectural student like a harmonious building in front of his eyes and the opportunity to enjoy its correct proportions.

Section 4. Session.

The first session came unexpectedly. But we heroically entered the battle and won the victory with minimal losses.

The second session was expected from the beginning of the second semester and was greeted with open arms and fully armed. And then practice came …

Article 5. Measurement practice.

What have we been taught this whole year? Don't sleep at night. That is why 16 first-year students decided not to sleep all night on the Moscow-Sharya train.

At 5 am the train stopped in Galich, in 2 minutes 16 students, 16 stretchers, 16 bags and 16 laptops, as well as 1 professor left the second-class car of the train.

Father, the lucky owner of a minibus, kindly greeted 16 students, 16 stretchers, 16 laptops and bags, as well as 1 professor at the railway station.

At 6 am, 16 students, as well as 1 professor, were waiting for a lecture about the city of Galich and its environs, delicious tea and the continuation of the journey. An hour later, all of the above were in the judicial precinct No. 45 of the Parfenyevsky district of the Kostroma region.

Conveniently located in the courtroom, part-time hotel "Voskhod", the abovementioned persons went to the local hospital for lunch. Entering through the ambulance door, the students met with the associate professor of the Department of Fundamentals of Architectural Design.

Nectars and ambrosias were brought to the table in buckets and basins, wearily stirring them with iron ladles, and laid out in iron bowls. After tasting the nutrients, overcoming the volume of their stomachs, 16 students, as well as the professor and assistant professor, went to the facility.

The facility was greeted by 16 students, professor and associate professor in a deplorable state. The temple inside the building no longer existed, as did the cinema that was there in Soviet times.

It is difficult to describe everything that happened after the measurements were taken. Began data processing, drawing, direct acquaintance with the Auto CAD program in practice. This was the first task on the computer.

Then the Groundhog Day began. Wake up at seven in the morning with shouts of "Twelfth group, let's get up!", Washing with cold water, oatmeal for breakfast, Auto CAD, borscht for lunch, Auto CAD, jelly for dinner, Auto CAD, a dream about measuring practice and again, "Twelfth group, rise!"

Section 6. First results.

The first practice was unforgettable. The environment is perceived much better when it is your place of work. It was communication both with the architectural monument and with each other, with colleagues, as well as invaluable experience of working in a team on common goals. We made drawings of the Church of the Robe in the AutoCad program, using also a tacheometer, a 3D scanner and other measuring devices. The combination of the academic skills we acquired in the first year and modern technologies made it possible to complete the task in a fairly short time.

The building that we measured has seen a lot over the long years of its existence. It appeared before us in a dilapidated form, and this made us think about the preservation of the historical architectural heritage.

Section 7. Architectural heritage.

Ancient cities and excursions around them are very fascinating. You feel like you're not just a tourist there. The broken wall is like a deep wound to you. You plunge headlong into the atmosphere of antiquity and walk along with this beautiful house its entire thorny path.

It is sad, of course, that many architectural monuments in our country are in disrepair and require restoration. Surely there are ways and means to help the monuments of wooden architecture in the provinces, as well as historical buildings in the center of Moscow, which are under threat of demolition and need to be saved.

Part of this work is done by volunteer organizations and people who are not indifferent to our homeland. We believe that such societies need to be helped and promoted. After all, only by joint efforts can we preserve for centuries everything that was created by us and our predecessors.

Section 8. Summer…

They say it's great to do nothing.

But, having plunged headlong into idleness after a busy first course, it is impossible to adequately realize what is happening around. You were just somewhere far from home, in the wilderness, in nature, and there were only two things - like-minded friends and an old crumbling church. The goal was to save the building, to help him as much as possible. For days on end, not remembering any other life, you measure every centimeter of the old monument, feel with your hands all the protrusions, profiles, imagine all this in the form of drawings, plans, sections, facades. Thoughts, numbers and projections are constantly spinning in my head. What else is needed? And now summer, heat, lack of work …

By the way, about work …

Section 9. Future plans.

During this year, we have become much closer to the profession of an architect. Its main purpose is to form the space of human life - cities, complexes, buildings and structures, landscape compositions. Everyone can find their own facet here, since at the institute we gain knowledge of a wide profile.

In addition to the direct construction of buildings, you can restore them or design interiors, work on the design of the environment or landscape, build bridges and build entire cities. Everyone chooses something to their liking. In any case, all these activities are engaged in creating an environment for human life. And this is precisely the meaning of our future work.

Section 10. A profession is a whole life.

For those who are truly passionate about their profession, architecture is not just a house, it is a whole life. Our profession is very multifaceted and varied. We learn to calculate trusses and create compositions, we study history and style, materials and structures … Everyone can find their own face here. Even looking through the open door of architecture with one eye, you are inspired and understand: this is yours. This is what is worth doing, what people need and what the world needs. Communication with architects, who often come to visit us at the institute, gives an opportunity to look at the profession from a practical point of view. You understand that this is a difficult and responsible business. But at the same time, you want to work not less, but even more. I would like to see the building you created, to understand that you created it, having gone through all the hardships, putting a lot of effort and a piece of your soul.
