According to the instructions of the competition, the participants had to think over a way of transforming Velikiy, Olginsky, Muromets, Trukhininov, Venetian and other islands into a multifunctional recreational zone for tourists and townspeople; in addition, it is planned to create objects of environmental education and restore the natural environment, preserve the monuments of history and architecture there.

Russian architects Mikhail Beilin, Daniil Nikishin, Artem Staborovsky, Artem Kitaev and Nikolai Martynov decided that all these tasks can be realized only by providing convenient access to the islands for everyone. And therefore, they proposed, along with a developed ferry service, to build a cable car there, connected with the city's transport network. It connects the islands Trukhininov, Dolobetsky, Venetian and Veliky. The latter is home to one of the exemplary eco-objects - the turbine park - also by cable car you can get to the top of one of the "wind towers" with vertical slats, where an observation deck is arranged: from there you can look around both the Kiev islands and the panorama the historical part of the city.

The updated transport infrastructure will also facilitate communication between the center and the districts beyond the Dnieper, including a new pedestrian arch bridge, which at the same time serves as a full-fledged public space. Another bridge, already in the form of a ring, connects the three islands; within its boundaries there are “baths” with wooden “bridges”, which in winter time become a convenient place for fishing.

Among the eco-constructions proposed by the architects are a waste recycling plant and a museum of eco-technologies: it is assumed that food waste from catering establishments will be used as biofuel to generate electricity, which will partially cover the needs of the "archipelago" in electricity. On the northernmost of the islands, it is planned to arrange a festival zone: during a flood, the monuments installed there will partially go under the water, and it will be possible to launch rafts along the surface of the river.

In addition to various recreational and cultural functions, the architects have developed a project for a nature reserve for the islands, where visitors can see animals and plants characteristic of the vicinity of Kiev in their natural environment, as well as go eco-fishing. A variety of functional areas of the "Kiev archipelago" will ensure the active use of the islands throughout the year.
