The Wasserstadt Solothurn - Water City of Solothurn - will appear less than 15 minutes' walk from the historic city center, famous for its Baroque buildings, but it will be a completely different environment, more associated with Berlin "villages" of classical modernism.

The district will be built on the site of a landfill with an area of 375 thousand m2, on the banks of the Aare River. First, the contaminated soil will be removed from there, then a horseshoe-shaped "bend" will be dug, along the banks of which residential buildings will be located. The site in the center of the bend will turn into an island - a recreational area. Its northern half will be given over to the "natural environment", a camping and a rowing club will appear in the south, and the existing farm will be preserved there.

It is on this green island and on the water that the windows of new houses will open: 600 dwellings are planned for approx. 900 inhabitants. Four building belts will be located along the horseshoe line (repeating the Berlin prototypes). Along the water - single-family houses, then - two-family, townhouses and, finally, larger residential buildings. This layout and the relief of the area dropping to the water will provide all houses with access to light, air and beautiful views. A promenade will be laid along the edge of the bend.
