But are modern window designs really effective? In order to analyze the restraining force of the window, special studies have been carried out. In particular, it was measured how much the sound intensity decreases after passing through a glass unit, as well as a roller shutter installed on it. The crash of a truck passing by (70dBA) was taken as an example.
Thus, a single-chamber double-glazed unit reduced the sound of a truck to the volume of a human voice in a normal conversation (45 dBA). The two-chamber made the noise of the truck no louder than the rustle of leaves in a light breeze (40 dBA). The same result was shown by a single-chamber double-glazed unit in combination with a roller shutter. The most effective turned out to be a two-chamber double-glazed unit in combination with a roller shutter, which made the hum of the car almost inaudible (35 dBA).
Tests carried out by the ALUTECH Group of Companies have shown that a window structure protected by a roller shutter can reduce the sound of external noise by 30-35 dBA, depending on the size of the window opening.
Noise protection is improving along with the development of industry and transport. While external sounds penetrate through the old frames almost unhindered, the double-glazed windows protected by roller shutters give a powerful rebuff. The method has long been tested by residents of Western Europe, where roller shutters on the windows are the norm. It is hoped that the noise level will gradually decrease.
