The customers were residents of the village of Alberite near Logroño: they wanted to dedicate a new chapel to the image of Our Lady of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua, revered there.
The chapel is located on a hill in the vicinity of the village, so the architects had to ensure both its openness to the panoramas of La Rioja and the spectacular silhouette of its silhouette when viewed from afar. In addition, it was planned to use the chapel not only for chamber services, but also for holding popular church fairs, where many people flock, so the building is suitable for both a small and a very large number of believers.
But the key task was to "integrate" the historic arcade into the new building: this arcade was rescued during the demolition of a building in the center of Alberite and decided to use it in the construction of the chapel. She determined the elongated character of the building, where the walls and roof are emphatically parallel to the line of the supports.
As a material, concrete was immediately chosen - for its "abstractness, durability, stability and strength."
