The Pushed Slab building was built by order of the investor Icade on the site of a former railroad embankment that delimited two types of development: a block to the north and a freer one to the south. To preserve the view of the historic building next door, the architects made a huge window in their building, but in this case it is not a neatly carved rectangular opening in the body of an apartment building, which is quite typical for MVRDV, but a curved opening, obtained by "breaking, bending and pushing "Office" plate "(150 mx 21 m).
The complex shape of the building is emphasized by the alternation of glazing tapes and the wooden cladding of the facade (only ecologically mined material was used for it). Opening terrace and balconies are equipped with one more
trees in huge tubs are a favorite component of MVRDV: they are designed to create a pleasant atmosphere for employees to relax.
The building has a flexible layout with a common lobby and three staircase and elevator nodes, which allows it to be rented out to one or more tenants without any special transformations.
Pushed Slab is the first building in the first eco-district of Paris and meets the requirements of the capital's "Climate Plan": its energy consumption is 46 kWh per m² / year. There are 264 solar panels installed on the roof, which will produce 90 MW / year, and 22 solar collectors will provide the construction of 45% of the energy it needs to heat the water. The project includes a system for the use of "gray" water, blinds are built into the southern facade and "openings" of the building, and to combat "cold bridges" the building is thermally insulated from the outside.
