White Square

For the last 100 years, Unity Square (Venibes) has played a predominantly ceremonial role: the representative pre-war building of the M. K. Čiurlionis and the Vytautas the Great War Museum, its park, where important monuments and the Eternal Flame are located, as well as a number of administrative buildings.

However, the changing style of urban life made people think about reconstruction. The German bureau 3deluxe was commissioned to renovate two buildings and build three new ones, as well as transform the square itself.

The buildings received a neutral look with a contrast of dark glazing and white façade panels, with more or less parametric flavor. At the same time, the square was conceived to be more varied and "characteristic"; she herself is a pedestrian, and under it is a garage.

Differences in the relief required the construction of stairs that serve as seats or even an "amphitheater" in the case of film screenings or concerts: a free flat area is suitable for placing a temporary stage. In warm weather, this part is occupied by an interactive fountain.

As needed, the area can be supplemented with kiosks and food trucks, mobile seats, etc.

Since the client is an avid skateboarder according to the architects, most of the sites here are suitable for this sport.

The main place in the organic layout of the square is occupied by an elongated reservoir, around which are placed wooden "islands" and landscaping areas with native plant species - pine, birch, shrubs and grasses, which attract insects and thereby increase the biodiversity in the city. The main materials used are light granite and white concrete.
