We have already talked about two projects that became favorites of the jury of the competition for the architectural and urban planning concept of the Museum of Science and Technology in the city of Tomsk: the project of Nikita Yavein's St. Petersburg Studio 44 full of historical allusions - it took first place and was accepted for implementation and a flying futuristic project Asadov's bureau, to which the jury awarded the conditional second place, including him among the best.

Here are three other projects, also selected in the final of the competition: from the Moscow "Archstructure", the Slovenian Ofis arhitekti and the Spanish consortium Rubio Arquitectura + Francisco Mangado. Recall that the competition was announced in July, organized by the Union of Architects, its first round was attended by 18 foreign teams, 33 from Moscow and St. Petersburg and 12 from other regions of Russia. Having considered 63 ideas, the jury invited five teams to continue working on the second stage. The winner was announced in November. The building of the museum should become a part of the massive reconstruction of the Tom River, and the ideological motto of the competition was: “Science for Man”. *** "Archstructure"

In the version of "Archstructure", the volumes of the museum squares are strung on a hinge-diaphragm, the core of which is the round space of the courtyard. And the principle underlying the project is the famous spiral ramp, which was once tested with such success in the first, New York-based Guggenheim Wright Museum. But here the ramp is not outside, but inside, or rather, its spiral is like a spring, inside it has a courtyard, outside the petals of the premises. At night, the courtyard lights up, accentuating its role as the main axis of the museum.

The slope of the ramp is no more than 5%, it is convenient to move along it both up and down. A panoramic lift is provided for fast travel. Exhibition spaces are located in the upper loop of the spiral and represent autonomous transformable volumes. The principle of theatrical stage is used here, which can be adapted to any scenery. In the middle coil of the spiral - laboratories: walking along the ramp, visitors could observe the work of scientific workers. At the bottom of the loop are public spaces. Not far from the entrance there is a cafe, a shop, a cinema.

According to the authors, the museum building is designed in the shape of an igloo as a form that is resistant to the influence of climatic factors. This shape allows you to create an open and virtually unsupported structure. Green spaces around are preserved as much as possible. There are five levels inside the building, the movement is in a spiral, as in the previous project. As conceived by the authors, going up a spiral, visitors can "move" chronologically through the main stages of the development of science and technology. All levels are united by the central space of the atrium intended for temporary exhibitions - according to the concept, it symbolizes the human heart; from the atrium you can see all five levels of the building and plan your route. Exhibition spaces are as versatile and easily transformable as possible.

The shape of the building, divided into five blocks, resembling at the same time pedestals-sections of fluted columns, tree trunks and gears of a giant mechanism, symbolizes the interaction of science and nature. The blocks, each focused on its function, are connected by corridors. Wood is used in the decoration of the cylindrical parts, which should serve to create the effect of a “living” forest. Part of the museum program is proposed to be taken out into the fresh air, in a specially created park: paths and paths stretch from the museum along the park, one of which "dissolves" in the lake, and the other, on the contrary, allows you to walk between the crowns of trees. In total, there are seven exhibition platforms on the territory of the park, to each of which there is a path.
