37 participants submitted their works to the competition organized by the CAP Competition Bureau. They were required to propose a concept for the development of the territory that would decorate the city and emphasize its uniqueness. Zvenigorod was considered as a city located not far from the capital with a unique recreational potential - a beautiful landscape, monuments of ancient Russian architecture and a good ecological situation. It was proposed to supplement these "resources" with a comfortable environment with residential and office facilities, educational institutions, sports and leisure facilities.
Despite the fact that many projects seemed interesting to the jury, it was not possible to choose an absolute winner. It was decided not to award the first place at all, but to divide the second between the two competitors. We present the finalists' ranking. *** Second place
Architectural workshop "Archimedes Plus" (Moscow)
The authors tried to preserve the “spirit of the place”: not to distort the natural landscape, to leave natural coastal zones, to reflect the continuity of generations. The emphasis in the concept is placed on the history of Russian culture and literature (cultural center named after A. P. Chekhov, exhibition complex named after I. I. Levitan, museum of Slavic antiquities). The continuation of old Russian traditions is also observed in the architectural design of residential buildings. These are small-scale buildings with pitched roofs, in which plaster is combined with wood. The design of the residential quarters was based on the concept of a garden city. Maximum gardening is one of the basic principles. Five- and seven-storey buildings, the tallest, are located at a distance from the river bank and do not disturb the calm atmosphere of a small town. The architecture of offices and industrial premises, as well as leisure areas, on the contrary, presupposes a modern style, but with an eye to the prevailing scale of development. Here the authors also suggest active use of wood.
The park area along the Moskva River is full of interesting architectural objects. The Museum of Slavic Antiquities, for example, is made in the form of a hill overgrown with grass. There is also an amphitheater here, where masters of folk art will be able to perform. For recreation by the water and on the water, there are also many facilities: beaches, boat stations, piers for fishing. The new infrastructure, according to the plan, will significantly increase the attractiveness of the city.

The new area is surrounded by a forest on one side and a parkland coastal zone on the other, with the density and height of buildings decreasing as it approaches the water: this creates a gradient effect. An interesting silhouette of residential buildings is formed by the roofs of houses. The road along which the district is organized will provide communication with the city center and train stations. Residential buildings, according to the authors, will become multifunctional: they will house kindergartens, clinics, shops and other consumer services.
One of the main compositional elements is the pedestrian shopping street that permeates the territory. It connects the city squares into a single system, created to dilute the monotony of quarter development. The squares will also become centers of attraction for residents and guests of the city. Here the authors propose to place a large farmer's market, a cultural center, and a public garden. Free of cars, this street allows you to arrange dances, parties and carnivals, all kinds of fairs. The large coastal walking area also offers many recreational options, with cycling and walking paths, bridges and a sports area planned.

The goal pursued by the authors is to harmoniously fit the new area into the surrounding nature. The concept called "Vvedenskie Luga" is based on the optimal combination of architecture and landscape - wooded hills and lush meadows. The very name refers us to the ideal, according to the authors, architecture of the Vvedenskoye estate. Actually, it is the “meadows” (a landscape park with an area of more than 40 hectares) that have become the linear center of attraction for the entire district in this project. Moving away from the river bank, the park is driven by green wedges into low-rise buildings. It is proposed to locate tourist areas, hotel complexes, and residential quarters here. On the other side of the building is a pedestrian boulevard.
The desire of the authors to form an environment that is stylistically modern and, at the same time, fits into the atmosphere of a small historical city, can be traced in the use of appropriate urban planning techniques and elements. This is the planning grid of curved streets, walkways and courtyards, pedestrian boulevards and squares. Contemporary architectural forms are combined with the free use of stone, brick, wood and glass.

for a non-standard solution to integrate the complex into the natural landscape
The authors of the concept pursued the goal not only to create an autonomous space, but also to organically fit the new area into the existing landscape. The idea of an ideal city, which presupposes an economically vicious circle, formed the basis of the district's planning structure. These are two rings of different sizes (two main functional zones), which together form an infinity sign. Relief is combined with architecture through level differences. Automobile transport has been moved out of the new territory. For ease of movement, it is proposed to create a line of an unmanned electric tram, the route of which allows you to get to key points of the area, as well as to parking lots. Internal roads are intended for pedestrians and motorists. The key to a self-sufficient economic system will be the creation of local production facilities. Other components of an ideal city have not been forgotten - energy autonomy, wastelessness, and increased biodiversity.

for the best solution for the living environment of a small town
The main thesis of this concept is the interpenetration of urban development and nature, the lack of contrast between them. The projected area does not discord with the atmosphere of Zvenigorod and is based on its history. The territory is united into a huge green park, along the boulevards of which you can get to any part of the new district. The maximum density and number of storeys of buildings is achieved in the center of the site, while on the periphery, pedestrian green corridors are expanding, and buildings are getting lower and lower. The residential area in the central part is a series of small quarters, each of which has a landscaped courtyard. Here, in the center, all the business, cultural and social activities of the residents are concentrated (leisure and sports centers, medical and educational institutions, office buildings). This makes it possible to make movement around the area as convenient as possible, and its peripheral part is quiet and calm. It is also planned to locate environmentally friendly production facilities in the west of the projected territory, and the transport connection of the new industrial zone with the city will be carried out bypassing the residential area.
