In Tokyo, plans to build a multifunctional complex Toranomon Hills Station Tower designed by the architectural bureau OMA. The tower will be part of the Mori Building development company’s global project to create an international business hub, Toranomon Hills. At the moment, two skyscrapers have been built for this complex: Toranomon Hills Business Tower and Toranomon Hills Residential Tower.
The Toranomon Hills Station Tower was designed by the head of the New York branch of the workshop, Shohei Shigematsu. The building will house a hotel, offices, retail space, as well as a park and an entrance to the Tokyo metro station on the Hibiya Line.
“Toranomon Hills Station Tower will be a key hub that will connect the new subway station with the other towers in the complex and with neighboring areas,” explains Shohei Shigematsu. According to the developer's plans, the construction of the tower will be completed in 2022, but they want to start partially the work of the metro by 2020 - in order to be in time for the Summer Olympic Games.
