Chipperfield's project was recognized as the most tactful in relation to the existing theater building (architectural monument) and to the urban environment, as well as the most economical and predictable from the point of view of implementation. Jury member, head of KCAP Kes Christians even called this project an "invisible hat".

David Chipperfield proposed to extend the theater with a new rectangular volume, almost identical to the theater in terms of area and configuration. The resulting extended parallelepiped will be joined by two side wings, one of which will house the premises for rehearsals, the other - a foyer, in front of which a small pedestrian square will be arranged.

In addition to Chipperfield, four other foreign firms also participated in the competition, two British (Avery Associates Architects and PLP Architecture, one Danish (Henning Larsen Architects) and one Dutch (Neutelings Riedijk Architects). European critics of cultural buildings.

The only Russian architect invited to participate in the competition was Sergei Skuratov. The jury separately noted his project as a work of the "highest level".

Let us remind you that the competition was supervised by the senator from the Perm Territory Sergey Gordeev. As a result of the reconstruction, which is planned to be completed by 2014, the theater will receive a new stage with 1,100 seats in addition to the existing hall with 900 seats. After the reconstruction on the new stage of the Perm Theater, it is planned to launch an extensive touring program.
