In addition to David Chipperfield, Jean Nouvel and Foreign Office Akitects, along with other architects, took part in the competition.

After the victory of the Swiss team in the 2003 regatta, the America's Cup will be held in Europe for the first time in 152 years of its existence.

The pavilion project is an important part of the extensive reconstruction plan for the entire industrial zone of the harbor, where the 2007 regatta will be held. The four-story building will house restaurants, bars, shops, a conference center and an observation deck.

It will consist of four horizontal levels offset from each other with different viewing angles. The free tongue-shaped space behind the building provides an even better opportunity to observe the launching yachts.

Landscape park with an area of 100,000 sq. m will connect the harbor area and the city.

The pavilion project is supposed to be implemented in two stages: for the Louis Vuitton Cup regatta in 2006 and for the 32nd America's Cup in 2007.
