Exhibition tour
From Berlin to St. Petersburg, through Asia and America to the Middle East, and then back to Europe - the route will pass through the most interesting cities and capitals of the world. The tour will take place both by sea and by land.
The traveling exhibition, organized by Pascal Johanssen and Katja Kleiss, the founders of the Direktorenhaus cultural center in Berlin, will take place all over the world for several years. The tour exhibition presents to the attention of connoisseurs a collection of German, high-quality hand-made manufacturing products - objects of modern design. The exhibits showcase the value of high quality handmade craftsmanship and the prospect of craft development in times of mass production and globalization.
St. Petersburg
The journey begins in St. Petersburg, from 20 to 28 September on Nevsky Prospekt in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. After the collection can be seen in cities such as Moscow, Hong Kong, Taipei, Abu Dhabi, New York, Los Angeles and Toronto.
The fact that the journey begins in St. Petersburg is no coincidence. Traditional German handicraft has a special relationship with the city on the Neva. Since 1703, German engineers and architects, artists and scientists, artisans and merchants came to the city, who contributed to the creation of the Northern capital. The very name "St. Petersburg" not only sounds in German, it is really of German origin.
Exhibition exhibits
There are many hereditary manufactories in Germany that produce high quality products. This is due to the rich traditions of German craftsmanship. The path of learning from apprentice apprentice to master is unique, which leaves manufacturing work as one of the most versatile and innovative sectors of the country's economy.
The exhibition "Handmade in Germany" presents German craft, which to this day remains influenced by art movements such as Werkbund and Bauhaus and is an important part of the cultural heritage of Germany. Handmade in Germany is a journey through modern and traditional Germany.
The exhibition is attended by internationally renowned luxury manufacturers, renowned manufactories, excellent craftsmen and award-winning art workshops such as: Kö nigliche Porzellan Manufaktur Berlin, Dornbracht, Fü rstenberg, Nymphenburg, Gipsformerei der
Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, Graf von Faber-Castell, Burmester, Koch & Bergfeld, Mayer’sche Hof-kunstanstalt, Frank Leder fashion designer and Fiona Bennett milliner.
The project website also contains a complete list of participating manufactories with information about each of them.
"Made in Germany" differently
The expression "Made in Germany" is known all over the world as a guarantee of quality, especially in relation to industrial products. In the context of the exhibition, the expression "Handmade in Germany" takes on a new meaning and implies quality products created directly by artists, designers and artisans. At the same time, mastery items acquire a special aura.
The exhibition "Handmade in Germany" reveals the sensual side of German products, where in the world of things efficiency and engineering thinking are complemented by form and ideas, poetry and personality.
Sustainable development
Manufacturing factories are a prime example of sustainable production: the scale of production, the durability of products and production methods that save natural resources make these enterprises the prototype for long-term development.
The Handmade in Germany exhibition shows that only small manufactories in the context of global changes and in the course of progressive standardization and dematerialization are the ideal alternative to standard economic business models. Manufactures are characterized by close relationships with customers, a clear structure, local and regional supply, environmental responsibility - all this explains the importance of their social function.
The initiators and curators of the traveling exhibition, Pascal Johanssen and Katja Kleiss, are also heads of the cultural organization Direktorenhaus, which regularly hosts exhibitions of contemporary applied art with the participation of international designers.
