If the World Cup 2022 is held in Qatar (that is, for the first time in a Middle Eastern country), one of the main problems in the construction of stadiums will be the hot climate of the Arabian Peninsula. Speer's projects primarily address this problem: they provide green climate control systems to keep arenas below 28 degrees Celsius: for the first time in the World Cup, all matches will be played in open, refrigerated arenas. Each of the five stadiums has received its own distinctive feature that makes it easily recognizable. El Garafa near Doha will also be increased to 45 thousand seats, and its facades will be covered with a wicker screen made of wide ribbons, painted in the national colors of the countries participating in the World Cup.
El Shamal, like the two remaining stadiums, will be rebuilt and designed for 45 thousand spectators. His design is inspired by the traditional Arabian dhow fishing boats, which is reflected both in the dynamic lines of its volume and in the design of the façade.
El Wakrah will be more than just a football arena, but a multifunctional complex with a multi-purpose hall, swimming pool, spa and shopping center. The entire territory adjacent to it will be landscaped.
El Khor, when viewed from above, resembles a seashell and is placed in the center of the park.
