Since 2004, Wienerberger has been running an annual Brick Award. The awards were given to unique architectural projects that used ceramic materials in the construction.
Eight years ago, this event went to the international level, and 2016 became one of the most massive in terms of the number of participants. More than 600 works from 55 countries of the world were nominated for the competition.
For the winners in the five categories, the prize money is 5,000 euros and for the Grand Prix 7,000 euros.
In 2017, applications will also be accepted in five categories:
- Feel at home: houses that can provide quality accommodation for all family members.
- Live together: multi-storey housing that can solve urbanization problems.
- To work together: commercial, industrial premises, as well as new offices for employees of enterprises.
- Be in society: the need to meet all the needs in the room for education, health care, preschool education, culture and infrastructure of the city.
- Build outside the box: interesting designs using standard materials (brick).

5 mandatory criteriathat the project must comply with.
- Artificial stone (brick) should be the main material for the construction of the facility.
- The use of not only new structures, but also the opportunity to carry out the reconstruction of old buildings.
- Projects completed before January 2014 will not be eligible to participate in the competition.
- You can use materials from any construction company (the use of materials from Wienerberger is optional).
- Particular attention will be paid to the functionality, environmental friendliness and energy efficiency of the project.
Applications for participation are accepted no later than April 20, 2017 … Of all the submitted works, the jury will choose 50.
The selected projects will be published in the Brick'18 book and will be nominated for the 2018 Wienerberger Brick Award. The jury will include journalists and the best architecture critics.
Brick'18 will be published in over 100,000 copies. This publication will be owned by large construction companies and architectural firms.
Brick Award Winners:
The main Brick Award event will take place in the spring of 2018. The Austrian capital will choose 5 winners of the competition in all declared nominations, and the competent jury will name the participant of the Grand Prix.
Selection of winners in Russia.
In 2017, for the first time, it was decided to award architects from Russia. A participant who has left his application on the site will have the opportunity to win an award in one of the nominations or become the owner of the Grand Prix.
The winner in each category will be the proud owner of the latest Apple iPhone (at the time of the award). And, of course, he will get the opportunity to attend the annual architectural award 2018.
