Architect Hans Coppen from Architectenbureau Coppen was responsible for the design of this school in Roermond. Thinking about the project, he pursued two main goals. Firstly, to create a school in which children would feel safe and, secondly, to give the building a special expressiveness. “We wanted to create a place that would inspire children to learn and explore the world around them,” says Hans.

In this project, the architect used Rockpanel cladding panels, Rockfon acoustic ceilings and Rockwool thermal insulation.

Constant and changing colors

The lower floor of the school has brick cladding for the outer walls, which make a significant contribution to the energy efficiency of the entire building thanks to the Rockwool thermal insulation embedded in them.

The design of the school reflects the harmonious relationship of different cultures - representatives of several nations live in this area of Roermond. This idea found expression in the fact that each brick color symbolizes a separate nation.

The school's top floor is clad in Rockpanel Chameleon tiles, which change color from gray to green to red depending on the time of day and angle of view. The building turns blue in the morning when the children go to class and turns red in the afternoon when they return home.

Another thing that has generated incredible interest is the amazing room acoustics that have been achieved through the use of Rockfon acoustic ceiling systems.

Rockpanel colors provide recognizability and a sense of consistency

The building was designed with the aim of bringing together different groups of children and in such a way as to provide a sense of calmness and easy orientation for children throughout the school. Each of the two groups of children has its own service area, consisting of a wardrobe, toilet rooms and a storage room. The material for the cladding of the entrances of these areas was chosen from a wide range of Rockpanel Colors - a different color for each of the entrances.

As a result, each child can easily and quickly find out what kind of entrance he is.

Different culture, different look, different colors

Such an interesting color scheme can tell children that different people from different backgrounds often look at the same things in different ways. Realizing this simple thought is the key to truly understanding the values of different cultures and nations. Which will ultimately lead to the understanding that we all live in the same society and each person is valued equally here.
