Several years ago, the architects of the ADM bureau completed a rather long and painstaking work on transforming industrial and administrative buildings between the exit from the Mendeleevskaya metro station and Suschevskaya Street into the Atmosphere business quarter. We talked about this twice: at the beginning of the project and after its implementation - the closed area in the lively Novoslobodskaya district turned into a series of peaceful courtyards, somewhat subtly, but persistently reminiscent of the famous Berlin Hack courtyards. The architects even settled the office of the ADM bureau in the new business complex.
Now, continuing to develop the area, ADM architicts have designed a new residential complex nearby - between Atmosphere and Novoslobodskaya Street. It will be located on the site of another industrial enterprise: a weaving factory of the 19th century. Most of the factory buildings are being demolished. It was decided to recreate one of the buildings - a four-story red-brick sample of industrial architecture of the late 19th century, visible from Novoslobodskaya Street in the alignment between the Europe business center and a five-story tenement building. Through the pile of outbuildings that clung to it, the architects saw the beauty of the old walls and decided to save what was possible, and the rest - to reproduce as close as possible “to the text”. The authors of the project especially like the western facade facing Novoslobodskaya, where three rows of narrow arched openings run down diagonally next to the wide factory windows. “It makes no sense to consider historical architecture from the point of view of logic, then people built more sensually,” comments Andrei Romanov. "This paradox is where the beauty is."
In addition to this wall, it is planned to preserve one of the side facades, with a more regular rhythm of windows - it will be “wrapped” around the corner, using it as the main module, and two missing walls will be completed, repeating all historical details. The historic building will be crowned by a penthouse superstructure with a light roof and a wide step of window openings, not disguised as antiquity, but delicately interacting with it.
The same can be said about the facades of the ten-story building, in which the main areas of the residential complex will be concentrated. L-shaped in plan, with wide ends, this volume will be clearly visible from the opposite side of Novoslobodskaya Street. The lobby of the building, its main entrance will be located in the depths of the block, from the side of the business center "Atmosphere", here the authors of the project are slightly shifting the border of the building area.
The facades, faced with large-sized slabs of light natural stone, are recognizable in the ADM style well-known from previous projects. The "Scottish cage" of windows grouped in two floors enlivens, but does not disturb the rhythm of the free alternation of different widths of pylons, thin stone belts unobtrusively mark the border between the levels, a thin striped cut of a barely rough "rustic" leaves a slight ripple on the surface of the wall, almost at the border of visibility … An additional color is brought by vertical imposts made of ARCH-SKIN porcelain stoneware in a natural wood tone. But this time, the authors of the project decided to add a note of glamor to the laconic purity of their style. “Since this is a kind of house-reputation in our country,” explains Andrey Romanov, “we wanted to try this option. This language seems to me quite relevant now."
The material embodiment of the game conceived by the architects was the forged balconies and flower beds with stone patterns that adorned the facades. They are arranged as follows: the windows of the living rooms on even floors are somewhat deepened relative to the plane of the wall, the resulting space is partially occupied by a stone box of the flower girl, and next to it appears a semicircular, light, completely French balcony for one person, whose metal fence repeats the stylized floral ornament of the flower container. Across the floor, these elements change places: say, on the fourth floor there is a balcony on the left, a flower girl on the right, on the sixth - vice versa. On other floors, windows are also full-length, but they, of course, do not open entirely - glass screens with silk-screen printing according to the author's sketches serve as a fence.
In addition to two residential buildings, there is another volume on the site - a one-story stylobate intended for retail. The authors of the project placed it along the southern border of the site, thus closing the courtyard - and this decision gave impetus for another plastic plot. The roof of the stylobate became the upper level of the courtyard, from where it gradually descends to the natural level of the site. The architects cross the surface of this embankment with diagonal paths that form elongated rhombuses: this is both beautiful and functional, because everyone who has ever climbed the hill on skis knows that it takes longer to climb diagonally, but easier. Since the difference in relief is quite solid, in the whole floor, there will be enough bulk soil to plant any plants - up to large trees. Moreover, each of the rhombuses itself has a certain volume, which means that the resulting sites will be sufficiently closed so that people resting on them can feel in solitude. The natural decor of the courtyard will be reinforced by gratings made of the same “wooden” ARCH-SKIN porcelain stoneware that will be used to decorate the first floor of the main building. So the courtyard has every chance to turn into a blooming hill. The theme of the mini-garden is dotted with floral canapes - the architects hope that the residents of the apartments will support the idea, disseminate and develop it, and carry it to the very roofs.
Sminex has already started construction.
