La Seine Musicale is located on the Seguin Island in the Seine, where Renault operated until 1992. Now the island and the adjacent coast - the territory of the Parisian suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt - are being transformed from an industrial zone into an area of mixed development. The concert hall of Shigeru Ban and his French partner Jean de Gastines appeared on the site of the François Pinault collection museum planned here in the early 2000s, designed by Tadao Ando.

According to Jean Nouvel's masterplan (more about him

here and here), the “nose” of the island is outlined by a concrete wall - the facade of the concert hall, but its appearance is determined not by it, but by a glass sphere on a wooden lattice frame, which houses the hall of academic music “Auditorium” (1150 seats). Its interior is protected from the sun's rays by a 45-meter "sail" made of solar panels (800 m2), which moves during the day following the sun at a speed of 0.08 m / s. Below it is the multifunctional Big Sena Hall for 4,000 spectators (or 6,000 with a combination of seating and standing space): it can be easily transformed for a variety of events. The green roof of this hall has been converted into a part of a new park, which covers a total of 7410 m2.

In La Seine Musicale, on a total area of 36,500 m2, there are also recording and rehearsal studios, educational premises, including a new

Philippe Jaruschi Academy, which aims to make classical music education more democratic. Above the entrance to the building, there is an 800 m2 LED screen, where the concerts taking place inside are broadcasted. The construction budget is 170 million euros.
