The results of The Architecture Drawing Prize, co-organized by the World Architecture Festival (WAF), Make and the John Soane Museum in London, have been announced. The Grand Prix of the competition was taken by the graduation project of Jerome Xin Hao Ng, a student of the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. His work also won in the Mixed Media nomination. The jury members noted the excellent design and its implementation in the drawing.
Christopher Wijatno won the first prize in the category "Digital Drawing". He depicted a prison that floats somewhere in the open sea like an oil platform. In his work, the influences of Piranesi and Dante are felt, the judges say. Dimitrios Grozopoulis became the best in the "Freehand Drawing" category. The judges noted the high quality of performance, in particular - the virtuoso mastery of the line. The senior curator of the John Soane Museum, Owen Hopkins, one of the jury members, noted that all three projects demonstrate the perfect unity of plot, technique and visual means.
A total of 166 applications were submitted for the award. The short list included 38 works - from practicing architects, designers and students from 15 countries of the world, while more than half of the finalists were under thirty (for young participants, a significant discount was provided upon registration). Sergei Tchoban received an honorary mention by the jury in the Freehand Drawing category. Anna Budnikova won three projects at once: two of her architectural drawings were awarded honorary mentions by the jury (Freehand Drawing and Mixed Media categories), and the third was shortlisted (Freehand Drawing). Maria Kremer, an architect from Alexander Brodsky's bureau, was also included in the general list of finalists (Mixed Media).
Works from the shortlisted awards will be exhibited at a dedicated stand at the WAF, which will take place this year in Berlin on November 15-17. The John Soane Museum is also planning to host an exhibition of drawings from the winner and shortlisted awardees from February 21 to April 14, 2018.
